I know I am biassed, but the new self build features are damn good and easy to use:
Blog - add your Blog pages, and your members can post comments
Forum - set up your groups and subjects and your users do the rest
Tell-a-Friend - simple form to click and send a link to the site to a friend
All of these can be set to be available to members only and you have access to the list of registrations to send emails to them and keep them up-to-date with what is happeneing on your web-site. How cool is that.
