Take a risk

"Challenge Your Fear" it says on the poster pinned directly above my dentist's chair.
It is a lovely picture of a free-climber nearing the top of a cliff face and swinging perilously out over the vertical drop.
Many life-coaches and motivational counsellors push the idea that life-balance is the key to long-term life satisfaction and ultimate happiness when we die.
One of the ingredients is the emotion we get when we are frightened and the chemical release that fear produces.
You do not have to go rock climbing to get the chemical released.
For example my neighbour is scared of frogs - she just has to knock at our door this time of year and she gets a nice dose of fear from the frogs sat along our path.
More positive is to take a step towards defeating a fear that is reducing your quality of life or holding you back:
- Fear of being unemployed
- Fear of not having enough money
- Fear of taking responsibility for others
- Fear of school
- Fear of bullies
- Fear of meeting new people
- Fear of job interviews
- Fear of technology
- Fear of trusting others to help you with your idea
- Fear of your idea not working as you wanted
The first step is to recognise the fear and how it is holding you back from something you want.
Then you need to challenge it in a way that you can handle; progressively challenge it until it is no longer causing the chemical release and you are free to get what you want.
