PDA Dreams

Since 1995 I have been on the trail of the ideal PDA - that pocket
sized robust gadget that does exactly what it says on the tin...
All the time I want more and more features and keep changing device -
my latest is the IPAQ from HP the H6340 version and the spec is very
impressive.
It blows my Ericsson, Psion, Nokia and Sony forerunners off their relative pedastals by some considerable margin.
1. A phone that works 90% of the places I might go around the World.
2. Connectivity by cable, GPRS, USB, Wireless, Bluetooth and IRDA
3. Pocket Windows 2003 is Getting better and better
4. A basic camera - better than most phones
5. Full email, SMS, MMS and browser
6. Word and Powerpoint support
7. Good organiser - appointments and reminder alarms easily synchronised
What more could I want?
Well just a couple of things dealt with that make this PDA uncomfortable to live with would be nice:
1. It generally takes so long to come out of standby when a call comes
in that only one ring is heard before it diverts to voicemail and have
you ever tried changing the number of rings before divert on your
mobile - it is a nightmare.
2. If you ever think that the above problem is too much to handle and
decide to try your SIM in your old phone and another SIM in your IPAQ
it clears all your data...nice work HP, Love it. Real user
friendly that is.
3. There is always a number 3 so here it is - the default set up backs
up the IPAQ each time you plug it into the base. Well if like me
you choose to do your own backups when it suits you (as it has to sit
on the cradle for 20mins undisturbed) then watch out. When you
have the above problem and actually want to restore your data if you
use the same name as you used originally it will wipe out your backup
file. Again nice one HP/Microsoft a real bonus. Of course
if you read the restore help file it says name your device 'Guest' and
do a restore, but who reads that before the logical process has
failed...OK some of you would do that but not many.
Other than that it is a joy;-))
