Studies show that 15% of communication is what is actually said. An email communicates at this level or worse because context, verbalised emotion, innuendo, visual clues and other stimuli are mute.
How much trust would you put into a systems based on email?
"Take this nugget for example"
How many ways can you interpret this 'in-context'?
What meaning was intended?
The point is that to communicate most effectively you must use as many stimuli as are reasonably acceptable to the situation...
and make the situation as favourable to your desired outcome as you can.
For example taking a duff electrical appliance back to the store and standing with the sales assistant in the middle of the shop at the busiest time. Loudly and politely explaining the problem and that you would like your money back is much more likely to have the desired effect than ringing them up.
So re-think how you are going to get the most out of that deal you are about to go and get...
