Linux Vs Microsoft
Wednesday, 27th April 2005 by Neville Clark
Linux is good, but Microsoft looks better. Which is best?
My opinion and findings are as follows:
In real terms there is very little to choose between them
Functionality - match
Usability - match
Hardware Compatibility - match
Reliability - match
Support Advice on the web - match
Support Applications available - match
Availability of Freeware - match
Purchase cost - Linux zero to £60 Windows £60 to £120 plus
If cost is the only difference why isn't Linux in use everywhere?
Well this brings us back to the Betamax vs VHS argument - only then it
was purely availability of players and pre-recorded tapes that
dominated over technical solution elegance.
Here it is Marketing and the number of pre-recorded students in our schools that dominate over technical elegance and price.
Put simply - the fact that apples are free from a house down your road
will completely escape you and you will buy from a store because you
don't know any different.
Well now you do know you have a choice and it will save you money are you going to the superstore or the house down the road?
Your choice...
