Attitude

There were days when working with my Father he would say - "Going to be
a funny old day today" meaning business would be poor and people would
complain.
Invariably he would be right.
My Grandad would look up to the sky, take a look around and give me a
five day weather forecast that was always, always right.
Something hundreds of top scientists can't get right a day in advance
today.
So why is it that something we have a great deal of control over and
has little normal variation can be only slightly more predictable and
controllable than something we have no control over and yet infinite
variation (here in England at least).
It is
'self-fulfilling-prophesy' or
'setting yourself up to fail' or
'Sowing the seeds of doubt' or
'Brain washing' in it's simplest form
All stuff we recognise today in advertising, on the media and in our
every-day lives, but how many of us really make it work for us so we
are not merely puppets in other people's games?
A start along the path to doing this is to question what you are
hearing and secondly to challenge the assumption. Lastly - manage
the real issue to best help you.
My Father sold vegetables and when the crop was bad or he could see a
lot of things on a crop that customers might complain about he'd say it
was going to be a funny day. He found that by presenting the crop
well with the best on top and mixing in the poorer items plus
discounting prices and doing free samples to new customers - the
customers would be happy and he would get no complaints. In fact,
by approaching the problem as an opportunity to look generous and build
relations with new customers rather than seeing the problem, he made
more money.
The essential ingredient in any situation is to make the most of the
opportunity that is there and if there is something to learn from the
disaster fine, but don't look for a lesson that is not there.
Beware the teacher of what not to do because you'll be forever wishing you'd tried it for yourself.
Go for it - realise your potential now...
