“Sir John Harvey-Jones
would turn in his grave!”

Don`t mess with working technology Tuesday, 3rd February 1987
As an Engineer you often come across situations where technology is being used successfully, and you can see potential to improve it.  Well the thing is we often see only what we want to see when looking at business for the first time and much is going on behind the scenes that justify the solution being used.

I was taught this by an old farm-hand milking cows.  I looked at his stool and said he would be much safer on a bigger stool with four legs rather than his old rickety three legged one.  He smiled and told me cows don't care much for stability and if you are too stable when they kick it does far more damage to them, you and the stool.

The point is experience counts for a great deal and safety is not always about protecting people from obvious threats.
