“Sir John Harvey-Jones
would turn in his grave!”

On Stage Wednesday, 17th February 2010
FG invited and Evil Wicked Devil Woman didn't scare him off!!

During the village panto at New Year Charles went to see his mum and big sis live a dream of stardom.  Little did I know I would be lighting Charles as he decided he would go on stage along with a much older boy to be turned into an evil creature by the wicked witch (of course FG would issue the counter-potion immediately if anything evil happened).

I had dragged Charles to some shows before and boredom set in before my eyes had time to get accustomed to the light.  This time he sat with Grandparents and Aunts and Uncles in the front row and looked entirely entertained - transfixed with what was going on.  He sat on a chair to himself for the first act and in the second act when community song had finished he rose to the challenge. A short spat between the evil and good forces ended in a challenge being set to turn young members of the audience into evil creatures.  Evil fairy went down into the audience and scowled at children to volunteer.  Charles and a six year-old plucked up courage and boldly went where no young person should venture - on stage.
After a brief potion mix and being put into a box they both appeared as animals.  FG promptly issued sweets to correct the problem and let them return to their seats.

Each time I look at Charles I see a new character developing and although he is still in his stubborn phase he has started to react to reason.  Calm talking through his various options and outcomes during a tantrum usually results in calmness returning.  His face too is taking on features and character (not scars so far) as his command of expression develops.

A wonderful Christmas was followed this month with an even better third birthday on 9th Feb 2010.

We barely think of the battle we had with both our children now nor the extreme and specialist carers who enabled them both to be normal as they are.  It is only when updating this or talking to people new to caring for Charles that we drag the depths of memories and stir up emotions that have our faces jerking, spasm, wet tears, mouths wrinkling with suppressed emotions we feel should now be firmly behind us.  Crying is such a helpless expression and yet that is still the one thing that runs like a train right into your chest and up out of your face uncontrolled and out of the blue - why?  We are over it now aren't we.  The worst is empathy when we see someone else suffering similar emotions with their babies - eg on TV or being told by friends of events.

Thank you again!
